On to the Next Garment
So here’s the start of the new era! This time I’m focusing on the leather S&M bar culture of the 1970’s. I skipped quite a vast amount of time as I was intrigued by the divide in queer fashion pre and post Stonewall Riots. I will be returning time periods between the 18th century and the 1970’s later in my work.
Previously, my photographs focused on place and how locations can be intrinsically linked to the community so in this outfit I wanted to consider a different aspect of LGBTQ+ identity. Sensuality and physicality are at the forefront of this design to explicitly demonstrate the real people who form this community.
I’ve got my design all ready and have been enjoying myself with the UV printer, printing some pattern pieces for the leather jacket. Now comes the fun of sewing it all together!
